Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Abrams

Abrams is Deadlock's shotgun brawler and tank: he charges into close combat with Shoulder Charge, heals off enemies with Siphon Life and stuns whole groups with his Seismic Impact ultimate. He is one of the original heroes and rated the easiest of Valve's three complexity tiers.

Abrams is a Deadlock brawler who charges into close combat, soaks damage for his team and heals himself from the enemies around him, with a shotgun called Case Closed and a leaping, stunning ultimate. He is one of the 21 original Heroes who were in Valve's invite-only playtest before the game was announced on Aug 23, 2024, and Valve's game files rate him complexity 1 of 3, the easiest tier. Outlets still rank him near the top in Oct 2026: S tier on Dexerto's Oct 9, 2026 list and on Mobalytics' Oct 22, 2026 expert list.

Abilities

Key Ability What it does Cooldown
1 Siphon Life Drains enemies in an 8 m circle for 4s, healing him 42s
2 Shoulder Charge Charges and drags enemies; a hero pushed into a wall is stunned 33s
3 Infernal Resilience Passive: regenerates part of the damage he takes Passive
4 Seismic Impact Ultimate: leaps up and crashes down, stunning in a 9 m radius 215s

Source: the game files as of Oct 26, 2026 (deadlock-api).

Siphon Life drains every enemy in an 8 m circle around Abrams for 4 seconds at 22 spirit damage per second, and heals him for 70% of the damage done to heroes and 35% of the damage done to anything else, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. Its upgrades are T1 -20s cooldown, T2 +2s duration and T3 +18 damage per second with +2 m radius. Valve's Mar 6, 2026 update turned it from a cone in front of him into a circle.

Shoulder Charge sends Abrams forward for 1.4 seconds, dragging any enemy he hits; pinning a hero against a wall stuns for 0.3s, and the charge deals 30 damage on a 33-second cooldown, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. T1 adds a 32% slow for 3s, T2 adds 0.8s to the wall stun, and T3 cuts 18s from the cooldown and gives +1.5 weapon damage for 6s after hitting a hero. Valve's Mar 6, 2026 notes set the T1 slow at 40%; Valve's Sep 16, 2026 update cut every slow in the game by about 20%, which is where 32% comes from.

Infernal Resilience is a passive that regenerates 13% of the damage Abrams takes over 20 seconds and adds +1 health regen, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. T1 gives +200 max health, T2 +18% melee lifesteal and T3 +9% damage regenerated with +20% debuff resist, the shape Valve's May 22, 2026 update gave the first two tiers.

Seismic Impact is Abrams' ultimate: he leaps into the air, picks a spot and crashes down for 100 damage and a 1.6-second stun in a 9 m radius, on a 215-second cooldown, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. T1 takes 30s off the cooldown, T2 adds 0.8s of stun and T3 makes him Unstoppable for 5s on cast and widens the impact by 6 m. The cooldown is higher than older guides list because Valve's Jun 30, 2026 update raised every ultimate's cooldown by 15%.

How to play

Abrams wins fights at close range and does little at long range, so his whole game is about getting next to people. Mobalytics' Abrams guide lists his strengths as healing, damage mitigation and crowd control in narrow spaces that make him "an incredible ganker", and his weakness as being nearly useless at range while Shoulder Charge is on cooldown.

In lane, Abrams trades with his shotgun and melee and survives on Siphon Life and Infernal Resilience rather than poking from afar; the Laning Guide covers the shared basics. Mobalytics' sharky build (updated Oct 21, 2026) calls him weak early but "an unstoppable threat" later, so the early goal is to farm safely and not feed.

His fights follow one pattern: Shoulder Charge into the enemy backline, ideally pinning a target on a wall, melee and shoot while Siphon Life heals him, then Seismic Impact when several enemies stand close together. Since Valve's Sep 16, 2026 update, dashes and light melee no longer pause his gun's slow cycle, a change Valve said helps slow-cycling guns like his the most.

His power spikes come with his ultimate and with melee items. Mobalytics' Mid-Boss guide (Aug 8, 2026) names Abrams among the strongest heroes at the Mid-Boss, because Seismic Impact can land on a whole team fighting over it.

Builds

Abrams builds around melee, lifesteal and close-range Weapon Items, with Vitality Items to stay alive; the Items and Shop page explains tiers and slots. The items players actually buy confirm it: in deadlock-api's measurement of Abrams' games from Oct 15 to 26, 2026, Melee Charge was bought in 91% of them, Melee Lifesteal and Close Quarters in 82%, Stalker in 65%, Lifestrike in 64%, Crushing Fists in 62%, Extra Regen in 60% and Hunter's Aura in 56%.

Phase Items (Mobalytics' sharky build, Oct 21, 2026)
Early Restorative Shot, Melee Lifesteal, Close Quarters, Melee Charge, Stalker, Bullet Resist Shredder
Mid Warp Stone, Hunter's Aura, Superior Duration, Lifestrike, Berserker
Late Plated Armor, Colossus, Spellbreaker
Situational Suppressor against fast-firing guns, Dispel Magic

Source: Mobalytics (sharky), Build ID 237488, updated Oct 21, 2026.

Bullet Resist Shredder sits in that early list because Shoulder Charge's spirit damage triggers it, and Superior Duration lengthens his stuns. Dexerto's Abrams build guide adds Spirit Resilience as "a major defensive spike against ability-heavy heroes". Builds and Itemization explains how to read and import builds like these.

Counters and matchups

Abrams is countered by range, anti-heal and parries. Mobalytics' guide says to keep your distance and burst him from afar, stay off walls when he is close and be ready to parry; Dot Esports (Aug 25, 2026) calls him easy to kite, with abilities telegraphed enough to parry.

Anti-heal is the standard counter item: PC Gamer names it against self-healers like Abrams, and Mobalytics' Street Brawl guide (Aug 27, 2026) lists Healbane against him. Toxic Bullets does the same job for gun builds.

The measured matchups from deadlock-api's hero-versus-hero data, Oct 15 to 26, 2026, show Abrams' lowest win rates against Graves (44.0%), Paige (46.3%), Victor (46.7%), Kelvin (46.8%) and Seven (47.2%), and his highest against Rem (57.1%), Mirage (57.0%), Pocket (56.9%), Sinclair (56.6%) and Paradox (56.5%). These are raw rates: Graves won 57.6% of all her games in the same window, so she tops nearly every hero's worst list.

Patch history

Valve has changed Abrams in five 2026 updates, mostly reshaping Siphon Life and his ultimate rather than cutting his power outright. Newest first:

  • Sep 16, 2026: Infernal Resilience T3 from +8% to +9%; Seismic Impact T3 Unstoppable from 6s to 5s; dashes and light melee no longer pause his gun's cycle (Valve).
  • Jun 30, 2026: Siphon Life T3 from +3 m to +2 m radius; Shoulder Charge T3 from -20s to -18s; every ultimate's cooldown up 15% (Valve).
  • May 22, 2026: Infernal Resilience T1 became +200 max health and T2 +18% melee lifesteal; Seismic Impact T2 to +0.8s stun and T3 Unstoppable from 5s to 6s (Valve).
  • Apr 30, 2026: Siphon Life healing from 80%/40% to 70%/35% (Valve).
  • Mar 6, 2026: bullet damage from 3.86 (+0.13 per boon) to 3.6 (+0.1); Siphon Life became a circle, its damage from 29 to 22 per second; Shoulder Charge damage from 37 to 30 and wall stun from 0.6s to 0.3s; Seismic Impact damage from 75 to 100, radius from 10.5 m to 9 m, and items usable during it (Valve).
  • Nov 21, 2025: Shoulder Charge cooldown from 37s to 33s (Valve).

Patches and Updates lists every update.

Lore

Abrams is a hard-drinking New York detective, and his in-game biography says he found The Tome on his desk with a note in onyx blood telling him not to let "them" have it, per the game files. His gun's name, Case Closed, fits the job. Mobalytics' guide credits his voice to Joe Seanoa (Samoa Joe). The wider story is on Lore and Setting.
