Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Patches and Updates

Deadlock's latest big update is City Never Sleeps (Sep 29, 2026), and its latest patch is the Oct 14, 2026 minor update that nerfed Baba and buffed Deadman Danny. Valve ships a named major update every few months and small balance patches every week or two in between.

Deadlock's latest major update is City Never Sleeps, released on Sep 29, 2026, and its latest patch is the minor update Valve titled for Oct 14, 2026 and posted on Oct 15, 2026, which nerfed Baba and buffed Deadman Danny. Deadlock is an invite-only playtest in early development with no release date, so every patch changes a game that is still being built: Valve has redrawn the map, rebuilt the shop, replaced the ranked system and added heroes in waves since the game was revealed on Aug 23, 2024. This page lists every big update in order, then the 2026 minor patches newest first, then how often Valve patches and where it posts the notes.

Every major update

Valve's major updates are the ones that add heroes, modes or systems; each has its own Steam post, and since Old Gods, New Blood the biggest have their own page on playdeadlock.com. The table runs oldest first. Before Oct 24, 2024, Valve posted its notes only as forum threads, and the forum is the source for those rows.

Each row links to Valve's own post. The two hero updates of 2026 have pages of their own: Old Gods New Blood Update and City Never Sleeps Update; the votes that decide each new hero's release day are on Hero Voting, and the queue changes of Jul 30, 2026 on Ranked and Matchmaking.

The 2024 updates built the playtest's basics. Valve's Sep 26, 2024 update added the first anti-cheat, which let a match's players either end the game at once or turn the cheater "into a frog for the rest of the game"; the Oct 10, 2024 update opened the first Ranked queue for set hours each day; and from the Nov 7, 2024 update the game precompiled its shaders on the dashboard to cut hitching. The Winter Visual Update of Dec 17, 2024 was, in Valve's words, "our last patch for the year".

The 2025 updates rebuilt the core game. The Map Rework Update of Feb 25, 2025 redesigned the map "around being 3 lanes rather than 4" and raised the server tick rate from 60 Hz to 64 Hz; the Shop Rework Update of May 8, 2025 made every item slot universal, cut slots from 16 to 12 and based investment bonuses on total spend per category (Items and Shop). The Nov 21, 2025 update changed how troopers pay out (Souls and Economy) and set the slot rule still in use: 9 base slots plus Flex Slots, one per enemy Walker destroyed.

The Six New Heroes update of Aug 18, 2025 began the pattern Valve has used for heroes since: one hero on day one, then the rest unlocked over two weeks in the order players vote for. The same post replaced the menu Dashboard with the Hideout and said Valve had paused Hero Labs while it built the six (Game Modes).

The 2026 updates added heroes, modes and objectives. Old Gods, New Blood (Jan 22, 2026) brought new Patrons and the 4v4 mode Street Brawl; three Gameplay Updates on Mar 6, Apr 30 and May 22, 2026 reworked Objectives; the Jun 30, 2026 patch split the old Urn event into the Unstable Rift and a separate Soul Urn run; the Matchmaking Update (Jul 30, 2026) split Standard from Ranked; and City Never Sleeps (Sep 29, 2026) gave the map its current look (Map and Lanes).

The 2026 minor updates, newest first

Valve has posted its smaller 2026 patches on Steam as "Minor Update" posts since May 2026, each titled with the day the patch went out. The list below gives each one's headline changes, newest first.

Oct 14, 2026 (posted Oct 15). Valve's notes nerfed Baba (a new -7% base Bullet Resistance, Threadsap's cooldown from 26s to 28s, Baba's Brew barrier from 100 to 90 and its cooldown from 25s to 27s) and buffed Deadman Danny (base health from 680 to 730, uncharged shots from 12 to 15 damage, Strix Salvo's cooldown from 30s to 25s). Radiant Regeneration's spirit scaling fell from 0.04 to 0.035, and in Street Brawl Baba's Threadsap lasts 35% less.

Oct 5, 2026. Valve's notes fixed troopers walking too slowly in lane and cut back the two City Never Sleeps heroes who had launched strongest. Rat King's ultimate Rule, Ratannia! went from a 130s to a 160s cooldown and from 20% to 15% damage reduction, while his Scrap Grenade rose from 65 to 70 damage; Sinclair lost base health regen (2 to 1) and bullet damage (17.76 to 16.5), and his Vexing Bolt now does half damage to objectives.

Sep 30, 2026. A forum follow-up to City Never Sleeps, posted by Valve without its own Steam post, added an option to hide player names over health bars, made names fade between 25 m and 35 m, added an Enemy Damaged Color (yellow by default) and a minimap ping when the Chinatown bell rings, and made Down Dash rebindable.

Sep 16, 2026. Valve's notes trimmed the comeback system (smaller comeback bounties, and 70% of the extra comeback value given to players already ahead of the enemy's average net worth moved to the lowest two players on the team), raised the Guardian bounty 10% and the Walker bounty 5%, cut all move slows by about 20%, and made parry pause reloading. Dashes and light melee no longer pause a gun's cycle time. Celeste, Warden and Wraith were nerfed; Silver, Haze, Paige and Shiv were buffed.

Aug 22, 2026. Valve's notes nerfed Celeste: Shining Wonder's damage fell from 165 to 140 and Dazzling Trick's cooldown rose from 32s to 34s. Radiant Regeneration's heal on cast went from 70 to 65.

Aug 12, 2026. Valve's notes buffed Apollo's Riposte (its T3 lifesteal from 60% for 7s to 75% for 13s) and nerfed Billy, The Doorman (Doorway range from 70m to 65m), Drifter (Stalker's Mark cooldown from 24s to 26s) and McGinnis (bullet damage 5% lower).

Jul 28, 2026. Valve's notes slowed the dashes of the slowest stamina group slightly (ground dash from 0.7s to 0.72s) and changed a list of items: Cursed Relic lost its innate -14% Damage Output and instead applies -25% for its 3.25s duration, Echo Shard's cooldown became 30s plus the imbued ability's, and Frenzy gained +10% Bullet Lifesteal.

Jul 9, 2026. Valve's notes tuned the new objectives: the Urn runner's move speed bonus fell from +3.5m to +2m, Rift Troopers gained 25% Melee Resistance and 30% to 45% Spirit Resist, and the share of an objective's bounty that goes to nearby heroes fell from 40% to 30%. Drifter and The Doorman were nerfed.

Jul 1, 2026. Valve's notes reworked Shiv: Slice and Dice went back to spirit damage and rose from 60 to 75 damage, and his alt fire costs 4 ammo instead of 5.

Jun 30, 2026. Valve's notes renamed the king-of-the-hill objective the Unstable Rift, spawning every 7 minutes and sending 5 Rift Troopers (up to 12 for a trailing team) down the lane of the team that takes it, and made Urn running its own objective. They also cut the Guardian bounty from 1,500 to 1,250 and the Walker bounty from 4,000 to 3,500.

Jun 11, 2026 (posted Jun 12). Valve's notes cut the Urn's give-up time from 75s to 60s, raised kill comeback bounties 8%, reduced every ability and item range in Street Brawl by 10%, and rebuilt Apollo's Disengaging Sigil.

Jun 4, 2026. Valve's notes reworked the Urn delivery into a king-of-the-hill capture: a 20 m circle that takes 6, 12 or 18 seconds for the favored, neutral or unfavored team.

May 31, 2026. Valve's notes buffed Apollo (Itani Lo Sahn from 190 to 200 damage) and nerfed Graves, McGinnis, Pocket, Silver, Victor and Yamato.

May 28 and May 25, 2026 (both posted May 28). Valve's notes for May 25 and May 28 moved the Urn's drop-off point, changed its spawn times from 10, 15, 20 minutes to 12, 18, 24 minutes, and made parrying a trooper stun it.

Earlier 2026 fixes went only to Valve's forum, as threads dated Jan 30, Mar 21, Mar 25 and Apr 10, 2026, according to Valve's Changelog listing. The Jan 30, 2026 thread added hero bans to Standard Mode and Street Brawl.

How often Valve patches

Valve patched every week or two through 2024, then switched to bigger, less frequent updates in 2025. From Aug 1 to Dec 6, 2024 it shipped a major update every two weeks, as PCGamesN reported; Valve's Changelog forum holds 57 patch threads for 2024 (May 3 to Dec 31), by our count.

Valve's developer Yoshi ended the fixed schedule on Jan 8, 2025. "Major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed," he wrote, as GamingOnLinux quoted; the two-week cycle, he said, "made it more difficult for us to iterate on certain types of changes internally", as PCGamesN reported. The Changelog forum holds 26 threads for 2025.

In 2026 the hero updates came eight months apart: Old Gods, New Blood on Jan 22 and City Never Sleeps on Sep 29. Between them came three Gameplay Updates, the Matchmaking Update and 14 Steam "Minor Update" posts by Oct 15, 2026 (our count from Valve's Steam news). City Never Sleeps itself slipped: on Aug 28, 2026 Yoshi moved it to "late September", saying the delay came from "playtesting and iteration sometimes taking longer than expected", and promised a heads-up "(or order a ton of pizza)" a few days before, as PC Gamer reported.

Valve has not announced the next major update or its date. Its Sep 29, 2026 post names the Mid-Boss ("both the model and the layout to a degree"), Guardians and Walkers as the next focus, with progression, hero and Hideout customization and gradual hero remodels also in the works; "large item redesigns/additions and alternate game modes" are more speculative.

Where to read the patch notes

Valve's Steam news page for Deadlock carries every post since Oct 24, 2024, either the full notes or a link to them. Older notes and some later fixes are threads on the Changelog board of Valve's Deadlock forums, titled by date ("09-29-2026"); and the two largest updates of 2026 each have a page on Valve's site, Old Gods, New Blood and City Never Sleeps. Old Gods, New Blood was the first update to get such a page, PC Gamer noted.
