Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Map and Lanes

Deadlock's map is one occult New York with three lanes since Feb 25, 2025: York (yellow), Broadway (blue, the middle) and Greenwich (green), with four Districts between them since City Never Sleeps (Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot and Plaza) and a base at each end.

Deadlock is played on a single map, a supernatural New York nicknamed the Cursed Apple, laid out around three lanes since Valve's Map Rework of Feb 25, 2025: York (yellow), Broadway (blue, through the middle) and Greenwich (green), each running from one team's base to the other's. The City Never Sleeps Update of Sep 29, 2026 redrew it again, giving the map new visuals, naming four Districts between the lanes (Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot and Plaza) and filling them with Haunts, Valve's new neutral camps. Valve's page for it calls the update "An updated visitor's guide to New York City". Deadlock is in an invite-only playtest, and the map is still changing.

The three lanes

Each lane is a road for the trooper waves, guarded by each team's Objectives in a fixed order: a Guardian, then a Walker, then a pair of Base Guardians at the base. Valve's City Never Sleeps page names three landmarks in each, and Mobalytics' interactive map (Oct 14, 2026) gives the colors and sides.

Lane Color Landmarks (Valve)
York Yellow, left The Stock Exchange, the Seaport Dock (Pier 16), the Old Fairfax Factories
Broadway Blue, middle Uptown, Times Square, Downtown
Greenwich Green, right Umbria University, Central Park (with the Hangman's Elm), The Brownstones

Broadway's Haunt is the Specimen, which Valve's page describes as a disembodied crawling hand. Greenwich's university runs a "Bibliomancy program", and Central Park's elm is 300 years old, in Valve's telling. The green lane went by "Park" in pings for a few months after the Map Rework, until the Shop Rework of May 8, 2025 brought "Greenwich" back.

Six players share three lanes, so most lanes start with two heroes. In Ranked, lanes are set in the pre-game waiting area and cannot be swapped by zipline afterward, per Valve's Matchmaking Update of Jul 30, 2026. The Laning Guide covers who goes where and how to play the first ten minutes.

The four Districts

City Never Sleeps named the ground between the lanes as four Districts, each with its own Haunts. Valve's page and Mobalytics' summary (Sep 30, 2026) match them this way:

District Haunts
Theater Stage Hands
Chinatown Crabbage Pots, Festival Spirit
Haunted Lot Shrooms
Plaza Underhands

Mobalytics also places Past Dues in Greenwich and Gutter Ghouls and Barrel Mimics in York; Valve's page does not say which lane each belongs to. The Neutral Camps and Jungle page covers every Haunt and how to farm it.

Each District has a feature of its own. The Bell Tower in Chinatown is a soul hotspot at the top, and collecting there rings the bell loudly across the map; since Sep 30, 2026 a minimap ping marks it too. The Sunken Plaza under the Plaza District is a high-risk area where outside sound and your stamina fade as you go down, in Valve's description.

Smaller features are spread across the map. Healing Snacks are hidden pickups that heal in a pinch; Steam Vents are veiled cover that make you invisible and regenerate a little health while you stand on them; and every veil got new rendering. Minimap labels now name each Lane and District. Mobalytics counted 36 Healing Snacks, 166 Buff Containers, 226 Crates, 74 Tough Crates, 11 Sinner's Sacrifices, 8 shops and 4 teleporters on its map (Oct 14, 2026).

Ziplines

Ziplines run along every lane and are the fastest way back to the fight. The Map Rework curved them and made the outer ones 15% faster. Zipline Boost gives +80% speed on a 360-second cooldown since the Shop Rework (it was +130% and 280 seconds), and a boosted line glows while a boosted player rides it. Since Mar 6, 2026, killing a pair of enemy Base Guardians sends a zipline-boosted trooper wave down your lane.

Teleporters, jump pads and powerups

Teleporters link distant parts of the map and work from the first second. They used to open at 8 minutes, until the Shop Rework of May 8, 2025 made them available from the start.

Jump pads launch you across the map but leave you exposed. Since Valve's Nov 21, 2025 update, taking damage in the first 0.9 seconds of a launch stuns you until 0.2 seconds after landing, followed by a 30% slow for 2 seconds. Valve removed two outward jump pads near the middle on May 22, 2026 and the ones on the double Sinner's buildings on Jun 30, 2026.

Powerups sit on the bridges and give a timed boost. In the game files as of Oct 26, 2026, deadlock-api's copy has them spawn at 5:00 and every 5 minutes after, last 160 seconds and grow from minute 5 to minute 40:

Powerup Effect (5 to 40 minutes)
Gun +12% to 35% Fire Rate, +35% to 70% ammo
Survival +200 to 750 health, 4 to 40 regen
Casting +15 to 65 Spirit Power, 12% to 20% cooldown reduction
Movement +2 to 4 Stamina, +1.5 to 4 m Sprint, +40% to 80% zipline speed

Bases and shops

Each team's base sits at one end of the lanes, with shops, the healing area and the Patron at its heart. The game files name the bases after the Patrons: Hidden King for Amber and Archmother for Sapphire (deadlock-api, Oct 26, 2026). The Shop Rework gave Amber an industrial exterior and Sapphire a museum one, and a round, high-domed interior where the Patron's throne sinks into the ground for the final fight. Old Gods, New Blood (Jan 22, 2026) overhauled the Patrons and bases and added tunnel routes for tiny heroes, per Valve.

Mobalytics counted 8 shops on the City Never Sleeps map. The base healing area is defended by turrets, whose damage rose 20% in the Shop Rework. The Items and Shop page covers what the shops sell.

The Mid-Boss pit

The Mid-Boss lives in the Pit at the center of the map. The game files call the middle district "Mid (the Pit)" (deadlock-api). The Map Rework added a Rejuvenator symbol there with three states (not spawned, under a minute from spawn, spawned) and many breakables around it, and Mobalytics (Aug 8, 2026) notes that the Mid-Boss only takes damage from enemies standing in the bottom of the pit. The Mid-Boss and Rejuvenator page has the fight itself.

Earlier layouts

Deadlock had four lanes until Feb 25, 2025. The Map Rework "redesigned around being 3 lanes rather than 4", changing buildings, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerups, juke spots and the Mid-Boss. PC Gamer (Jan 9, 2026) notes that it ended solo lanes and doubled default sprint speed in the same patch. The rework also added Bull and Bear statues in the jungle as landmarks for callouts, an under-construction suspension bridge in the yellow lane, and "Explore Map", an empty city for practicing movement, now called Explore NYC (Game Modes).

Wide painted city scene in three parts: a stone bridge tower against the sun on the left, a great triumphal arch with a Broadway sign and a glowing blue line through it in the middle, and a sunny park with autumn trees and towers on the right.

Smaller redesigns came before and after. Valve's Nov 7, 2024 update moved eight neutral camps between the inner and outer lanes, redesigned the warehouse interior with entrances from the Tenements and Music Hall, and changed the exits from each base's spawn. City Never Sleeps then rebuilt the look of the whole city, and Valve's Sep 29, 2026 post says the Mid-Boss ("both the model and the layout to a degree"), Guardians and Walkers are next in line.
