Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Mid-Boss and Rejuvenator

Deadlock's Mid-Boss sits in the Pit at the center of the map from the first second of a match, with 13,000 base health; the team that kills it gets 3,000 souls, 2 permanent buffs each and a Rejuvenator crystal whose buff lasts 3 minutes, and it respawns 7 minutes later.

The Mid-Boss is Deadlock's neutral boss in the Pit at the center of the map: since Valve's May 22, 2026 update it is there from the start of every match, it has 13,000 base health, and the team that kills it earns 3,000 souls, two permanent buffs for each player and the Rejuvenator, a crystal that drops from it and gives the team a 3-minute buff for pushing. It respawns 7 minutes after it dies. deadlock-api measured a Mid-Boss kill in 80.5% of matches from Oct 12 to Oct 26, 2026, the first at 28 minutes 4 seconds on average. Deadlock is an invite-only playtest; these are the values as of Oct 26, 2026.

Where it is

The Mid-Boss lives in the Pit, in the middle of the map; the game files name that district "Mid (the Pit)" (deadlock-api, Oct 26, 2026). It only takes damage from enemies standing in the bottom of the pit, Mobalytics' Mid-Boss guide (Aug 8, 2026) notes.

The pit tells you its state. The Map Rework of Feb 25, 2025 added a Rejuvenator symbol there with three states (not spawned, under a minute from spawn, spawned) and many breakables around it. Since Old Gods, New Blood (Jan 22, 2026) the minimap carries a Mid-Boss timer, and since the City Never Sleeps Update of Sep 29, 2026 the top bar shows its respawn timer and an in-world timer appears when you are near, Valve says.

When it spawns and respawns

The Mid-Boss is alive from the first second of the match. Valve's May 22, 2026 update made it "now starts spawned at the beginning of the game". After a kill it respawns 7 minutes later: 420 seconds in the game files as of Oct 26, 2026 (deadlock-api).

Starting spawned does not mean it falls early: the measured first kill came at 28 minutes 4 seconds on average from Oct 12 to Oct 26, 2026 (deadlock-api).

Health and fight

The Mid-Boss has 13,000 base health since Valve's Mar 6, 2026 update, which raised it from 11,900. The same update gave it 35% Debuff Resistance and moved its global announcement from 70% health to 50%, so the whole map hears when it is half dead.

Mobalytics names the heroes it rates for the fight. Its Aug 8, 2026 guide lists Abrams (Seismic Impact from the window), Dynamo (Singularity), Kelvin (Frozen Shelter on the crystal), Lash (Ground Strike), McGinnis (Spectral Wall), Pocket and Wraith (Telekinesis).

Rewards

A Mid-Boss kill pays the whole team. Its base bounty is 3,000 souls since Mar 6, 2026 (2,000 before), and since Nov 21, 2025 every player on the killing team also gets 2 permanent buffs. Objective souls split 25% to nearby heroes and the rest across all six players since Sep 16, 2026 (Souls and Economy).

The Rejuvenator

The Rejuvenator is a crystal that falls into the pit after the kill, and the team that claims it gets a buff to push with. The crystal takes 6 seconds to fall since Mar 6, 2026 (it was 7). Each Heavy Melee hit on it claims one Rejuvenator use for the hitter's team, up to three uses, and either team can claim them, per Mobalytics and the game files.

The buff lasts 3 minutes. Valve cut it from 4 minutes on Jun 30, 2026, and since Mar 6, 2026 its duration no longer refreshes when a later crystal hit lands.

The buff helps the team push, not fight. In the game files as of Oct 26, 2026 (deadlock-api), the first, second and third Rejuvenator multiply the team's respawn times by 0.5, 0.4 and 0.3 and its troopers' health by 1.7, 2.0 and 2.3. Since Nov 21, 2025 it no longer gives heroes +10% Max HP, +15% Fire Rate and +15% Spirit Damage Amp. Mobalytics adds that each use lets a player revive once, in 3 seconds; since City Never Sleeps, health bars show which heroes have a Rejuvenator use available, Valve says, and Old Gods, New Blood added a Rejuvenator duration timer.

Stealing it

The team that kills the Mid-Boss does not own the crystal. Because either team can Heavy Melee it, a team that loses the fight can still dive in and take uses away. Mobalytics (Aug 8, 2026) suggests keeping two players in the pit to stop steals: one parrying under the crystal while the other melees it, since a parry answers an enemy's melee (Movement and Combat).

When to take it

Guides agree on one rule: take the Mid-Boss when the enemy cannot answer. Esports.gg (updated Oct 15, 2024) says to take it only with solid lane progress and four or more teammates committed, and PC Gamer (Sep 4, 2024) warns that a map with no enemies visible means a gank is coming, especially when the Mid-Boss is up.

Mobalytics (Aug 8, 2026) gives the order: do not start it early, get picks first, push lanes first, and know that it does not heal back if abandoned. With the Rejuvenator, it says, trade kills freely, reset to spend your souls, and push Walkers, Base Guardians and Shrines in the 3-minute window (Objectives); after the buff ends, siege and farm safely until the next Mid-Boss. The Macro and Rotations page puts the Mid-Boss alongside the Soul Urn and the Unstable Rift.

What is next

Valve has said the Mid-Boss will change. Its Sep 29, 2026 post lists the "Midboss (both the model and the layout to a degree), Guardians and Walkers" as next in line after City Never Sleeps' visual update. Valve has not given a date.
