Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Macro and Rotations

Deadlock's mid game is won by turning every won fight into an objective, keeping your lanes pushed before you rotate, farming camps between waves, and timing the shared objectives: the Unstable Rift about every 7 minutes, the Soul Urn at 10 minutes and every 5 after, and the Mid-Boss, which deadlock-api's Oct 2026 data shows first falling at about 28 minutes.

Macro in Deadlock is what you do between fights: push the lanes, farm the camps, and move as a group to whichever objective the enemy cannot contest, so that every kill turns into a Guardian, a Walker, a Mid-Boss or a Soul Urn. PC Gamer's rule is the core of it: if the enemies you killed are on long respawn timers, "your next play should almost always be to hit an objective, hard." This guide follows the middle and late game with the timers as Valve set them up to its Oct 14, 2026 patch and the advice outlets give, each named. The lane phase before it is on Laning Guide.

Quick facts

Unstable Rift Every 7 minutes, plus or minus 1, in a random side lane
Soul Urn At 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes and so on
Mid-Boss Up from the start (May 22, 2026); respawns after 420 seconds (game files)
First Mid-Boss kill 28 min 4 s on average, killed in 80.5% of matches (deadlock-api, Oct 12 to Oct 26, 2026)
Rejuvenator 3 minutes (Jun 30, 2026)
Objective bounty 25% to nearby heroes, the rest split across the team (Sep 16, 2026)
Respawn 8 s at 5 minutes to 38 s at 20 minutes
Average match 36 min 26 s (deadlock-api, Oct 15 to Oct 26, 2026)

When the mid game starts

The mid game starts when the first Guardians fall and ultimates come online. deadlock-api measured the first objective falling at 7 minutes 43 seconds on average in Oct 2026, and the first Unstable Rift and the first Soul Urn arrive soon after. Esports.gg ties the mid game to the Mid-Boss and ultimates and warns against taking the Mid-Boss without solid lane progress and four or more teammates committed.

Farming patterns

Push the wave, then farm. Mobalytics (dxvis, Aug 28, 2026) advises clearing camps in the time before the next wave reaches your lane, because lane troopers still pay more than anything else. Camps first spawn at 2:00, 5:00 and 8:00 for small, medium and large (game files, Oct 26, 2026), and a camp respawns only after all of its creatures die, so Mobalytics says to clear your own camps fully and leave one alive in the enemy's to delay their respawn. After 10 minutes it suggests skipping small camps for large ones. See Neutral Camps and Jungle.

Take the map's extra souls. City Never Sleeps (Sep 29, 2026) added Tough Crates that need a heavy melee, Buff Containers that can give permanent stat bonuses, and the Chinatown Bell Tower, a soul hotspot whose bell rings across the map while you loot it, so taking it tells the enemy where you are. The average player collects 20.8 permanent buffs a match, the first at 7 minutes 41 seconds (deadlock-api, Oct 2026).

Do not stand still. When nothing is happening, PC Gamer says to defend lanes or clear camps rather than wander, and to watch the minimap: when no enemies are visible, a gank is coming.

Rotating

Move between lanes on ziplines, teleporters and dashes. Teleporters are open from the start of a match since the Shop Rework (May 8, 2025), when Zipline Boost was set to +80% speed on a 360-second cooldown, and Mobalytics' movement guide calls the dash jump a must for moving fast and running the Urn. On the City Never Sleeps map, the Mobalytics expert (Oct 22, 2026) says Sprint Boots and Fortitude "feel mandatory" for map presence. Movement is on Movement and Combat.

Push before you leave. A lane left with an enemy wave at your Guardian costs you that wave's souls and pressure on the objective; Mobalytics' Rift and Urn guides both say to push your lane before rotating.

Objective priority

After a won fight, hit the nearest objective. Respawns grow from 8 seconds at 5 minutes to 35 at 20 minutes (Jun 30, 2026), raised to 38 seconds on Sep 16, 2026, and the richer team waits longer still: 6 to 22 extra seconds with a 15% to 30% net worth lead, per Valve's Jan 20, 2026 change. Late in a game, a won fight is the time to take a Walker or Base Guardians. Esports.gg says to decide together whether to push lanes or take the Mid-Boss or Urn.

Each lane falls in order. The Guardian, then the Walker, then a pair of Base Guardians, which make the Shrines vulnerable (May 22, 2026); the Patron comes last. Each enemy Walker killed gives your team one of three Flex Slots, which PC Gamer calls "massive power increases"; killing Base Guardians sends a boosted trooper wave down the lane, and a dead Shrine turns that lane's troopers into Super Troopers with 60% more damage (Mar 6, 2026). See Objectives.

Objective souls go to the whole team. Since Sep 16, 2026, 25% of an objective's bounty goes to the heroes nearby and the rest is split across all six, so a split pusher who takes a Guardian alone still pays the team. Walkers grow tougher as they fall: 6,000, 9,000 and 12,000 health for the first, second and third killed (Mar 6, 2026).

Mid-Boss timing

Take the Mid-Boss after a won fight, not before one. The Mid-Boss sits in the pit at the center of the map from the start of the match (May 22, 2026); Valve last gave its base health as 13,000 and its bounty as 3,000 on Mar 6, 2026, and it announces itself to everyone at half health. Mobalytics (Aug 8, 2026) says to get picks and push lanes first, and warns that an abandoned Mid-Boss does not heal back.

The kill pays twice. Every player on the killing team gets 2 permanent buffs, and the Rejuvenator crystal drops 6 seconds later; each heavy melee on it claims one of up to three uses, and either team can claim them, per Mobalytics. Mobalytics' answer to steals is two players in the pit, one parrying under the crystal while the other melees it.

Spend the Rejuvenator on objectives. For 3 minutes your troopers get 1.7, 2.0 and 2.3 times their health and your respawns are cut to 50%, 40% and 30% for the first, second and third Rejuvenator, in the game files. Mobalytics says to trade kills freely, reset to spend souls, and push Walkers, Base Guardians and Shrines in that window, then siege and farm safely until the next Mid-Boss. See Mid-Boss and Rejuvenator.

The Soul Urn

Run the Urn when your team can escort it. Since Valve's Jun 30, 2026 update, the Urn spawns at 10, 15, 20 and 25 minutes and so on, at one end of the map, and is carried to the other; delivering it pays the runner 250 souls plus 70 per minute as orbs allies can share, and gives the runner 4 permanent buffs. A light or heavy melee, a stun or a death makes the runner drop it, and the runner cannot parry.

Mobalytics (Oct 10, 2026) puts the first Urn in the yellow lane at 10:00, alternating with green, worth about 950 souls then and 350 more each spawn. Its advice: push your wave just before the Urn spawns, escort the runner, use the Urn as bait, and leave your lane only if your partner can hold. A losing team's runner gets more help: the runner's bonuses scale with how far behind the team is (Jul 9, 2026). See Soul Urn.

The Unstable Rift

The Unstable Rift is a capture point that favors the losing team. It appears every 7 minutes, plus or minus 1, in a random side lane, with a global warning 20 seconds before (Jul 9, 2026); anyone in its zone shows on the minimap. Capture takes 12 seconds with only one team inside, 6 for a team that is behind and up to 18 for one that is ahead, and the winners get Rift Troopers that march down a lane, 5 of them, up to 14 for a trailing team.

Hold the Rift with one player. Mobalytics (Oct 12, 2026) says only one player needs to stand in the zone while the others pick off flankers, and to push your lane before rotating to it.

Comebacks

The game helps the team that is behind. Since the Shop Rework (May 8, 2025), a losing team gains up to 25% more souls from troopers, neutrals and objectives, peaking at a 20% net worth gap, and its two poorest players get a small extra income; since Sep 16, 2026, 70% of the comeback value that would go to players already above the enemy's average goes to those two instead. The same patch trimmed comeback bounties on kills and Rifts.

Kills on fed heroes pay most. A kill's base bounty is 200 souls, growing to at most 2,200 at 40 minutes (Jun 30, 2026), and City Never Sleeps' event feed shows a target's full bounty and your personal share (Valve). A team that is behind should take the Rift, pick off a carry and spend the souls before forcing the Mid-Boss.

The late game

Late games turn on single fights. After 35 minutes troopers gain 50% more health and waves come every 20 seconds, and a death costs most of a minute. If you are behind, Esports.gg advises keeping a quiet lane balanced rather than forcing fights. The final target is the Patron, which falls once and then rises as the Weakened Patron in its base; destroy that and the match is won (Dexerto).

Frequently asked questions

When should you take the Mid-Boss in Deadlock? In Deadlock, take the Mid-Boss after a won fight with lanes pushed and four or more teammates there, as Esports.gg and Mobalytics advise; deadlock-api measured the first kill at 28 minutes on average in Oct 2026.

When does the Soul Urn spawn in Deadlock? Deadlock's Soul Urn spawns at 10 minutes and every 5 minutes after, at 15, 20, 25 and so on, under Valve's Jun 30, 2026 rules.

What should you do after winning a fight in Deadlock? After a won fight in Deadlock, hit an objective while the enemy waits up to 38 seconds to respawn; PC Gamer says that should "almost always" be the next play.

How do you come back from behind in Deadlock? In Deadlock, a team that is behind gains up to 25% more souls and captures the Unstable Rift faster, so take Rifts and pick off rich heroes before forcing the Mid-Boss.

What does the Rejuvenator do in Deadlock? Deadlock's Rejuvenator lasts 3 minutes, cuts your team's respawns to 50% (then 40% and 30% for later ones) and strengthens your troopers, so it is the time to push Walkers and Shrines.

How often does the Unstable Rift spawn in Deadlock? Deadlock's Unstable Rift spawns every 7 minutes, plus or minus 1, in a random side lane, with a 20-second warning since Jul 9, 2026.
