Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Lash

Lash is a Deadlock initiator who grapples onto enemies, slams down from the air with Ground Strike for damage that grows with the height of his fall, whips with Flog, and lifts and throws whole groups with his ultimate, Death Slam. He has been in the playtest since 2024.

Lash is a Deadlock hero who flies in from long range to start fights: Grapple pulls him to a target, Ground Strike slams down for more damage the farther he falls, Flog whips and heals him, and his ultimate, Death Slam, latches onto several enemies, lifts them and throws them. The game sums him up as "Dives down to stomp his foes" in the game files (Oct 26, 2026). He is one of the original playtest heroes, on the roster Esports.gg listed for 2024, before Valve admitted Deadlock existed on Aug 23, 2024.

Abilities

Key Ability What it does Cooldown
1 Ground Strike Slams down for 60 damage in 10m in front, plus damage for every meter fallen 18s
2 Grapple Pulls Lash to a target within 30m and resets his air jumps and dashes 35s
3 Flog A 40-degree whip within 20m for 65 damage, healing 40% of damage dealt to heroes 26s
4 Death Slam Latches onto enemies in a 20m cone, then lifts and throws them for 105 impact damage 170s

Source: the game files as read by deadlock-api, Oct 26, 2026.

Ground Strike is his signature: it adds 5.5 damage per meter fallen for the first 25m and 4.2 per meter beyond, so a slam from a rooftop hits far harder than one from a jump, per the game files. T1 cuts 10s from the cooldown, T2 knocks enemies up and slows them 40% for 3s, and T3 adds 120% to the damage per meter, raised from 110% on Sep 16, 2026.

Grapple is his gap closer and escape. Because it resets air jumps and dashes, Lash can chain it into Ground Strike from height. T1 cuts 17s from the cooldown, T2 adds 20m of range and 7 weapon damage for 6s, and T3 adds a charge, a stamina point and 60% air control on use, per the game files.

Flog is his sustain in a brawl: it heals 40% of the damage it deals to heroes and 16% against other targets. T1 slows hit enemies 28% for 3s, T2 cuts 16s from the cooldown and lowers hit enemies' fire rate by 30%, and T3 adds 80 damage, 25 degrees of angle and 15% more healing, per the game files.

Death Slam is his team-fight tool, the crowd control Mobalytics credits in large fights. Lash channels for 2.3s, locking his whips onto each enemy in the cone (0.7s per target), then stuns, lifts and throws them up to 14m, dealing 105 damage in 6m on impact and slowing 40% for 4s. T1 adds 12m of throw, T2 cuts 35s from the cooldown, and T3 stuns enemies in the impact radius for 1.2s and adds 6m of cast range, per the game files.

How to play

Lash plays as a diver who picks the fight: he gives enemies little room to breathe, flying in from long distances to start fights or chase enemies who run, in the words of the game's own hero text. Mobalytics' Lash guide lists some of the best gap closing in the game, strong crowd control in small and large fights, and high burst; it also calls him mechanically demanding, vulnerable to crowd control and easily poked by long-range heroes. Dot Esports names Lash among the hardest heroes for new players (Aug 25, 2026).

In lane, the goal is to find height. A Ground Strike from a ledge or after a Grapple hits for far more than one from the ground, and Flog heals back the trade. Dexerto's Lash build (Feb 26, 2026) unlocks Ground Strike, Grapple, Flog and then Death Slam, and maxes Grapple first, then Death Slam, Ground Strike and Flog. See Ability Points and Leveling for how points come in.

In fights, Lash waits for enemies to group, then Grapples in and channels Death Slam to throw them into his team. Mobalytics' Mid-Boss guide (Aug 8, 2026) names Lash's Ground Strike as a strong tool at the Mid-Boss.

Builds

The most bought items on Lash mix spirit burst with gun items, as deadlock-api measured in his matches from Oct 15 to 25, 2026:

Phase Most bought (share of his matches)
Lane Mystic Burst 94%, Extra Spirit 84%, Extra Charge 75%, Headshot Booster 71%
Mid game Tankbuster 79%, Stamina Mastery 64%, Headhunter 51%
Late game Boundless Spirit 43%, Spirit Burn 39%, Mystic Reverb 25%

Source: deadlock-api, item stats for Lash, Oct 15 to Oct 25, 2026.

In that sample, late Spirit Burn carried a 57% win rate and late Mystic Reverb 59%. Dexerto's build runs Extra Spirit, Mystic Burst, Improved Spirit, Quicksilver Reload and Extra Charge early; Compress Cooldown, Mystic Expansion, Ballistic Enchantment, Stamina Mastery and Superior Cooldown mid; and Arctic Blast, Mystic Reverb, Warp Stone, Focus Lens and Refresher late. Most of these are Spirit Items; Headshot Booster, Headhunter and Ballistic Enchantment are Weapon Items, and Stamina Mastery and Warp Stone are Vitality Items. Items and Shop explains costs and slots.

Counters and matchups

Lash is countered by crowd control and long-range poke, Mobalytics' guide says. Among Counter Items, Mobalytics' Street Brawl guide (Aug 27, 2026) lists Slowing Hex against Lash, and PC Gamer called Knockdown the answer to fliers such as Lash (Oct 10, 2024).

Measured matchups put him worst against Graves (43.4% win rate when facing), Rat King (43.8%) and Kelvin (45.0%), and best against Sinclair (56.3%), Mirage (56.3%) and Pocket (55.7%), in deadlock-api's counter stats for Oct 15 to 25, 2026. Graves and Rat King win more against almost everyone in that window, so read those numbers against his own 50.77% average. Mobalytics' expert tier list (Oct 22, 2026) still names Lash as good into Rat King and Baba.

Lore

Jacob Lash's entire lore entry in the game is a single blunt sentence calling him a jerk, in stronger words, per the game files (Oct 26, 2026). His tags, Arrogant among them, say the same. More on the city in Lore and Setting.
