Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Spirit Items

Deadlock has 49 Spirit items as of Oct 26, 2026: 8 at Tier 1 (800 souls), 12 at Tier 2 (1,600), 13 at Tier 3 (3,200) and 16 at Tier 4 (6,400). Extra Spirit is the most bought item in the game, in 52.6% of hero-matches from Oct 15 to Oct 26, 2026.

Deadlock has 49 Spirit items as of Oct 26, 2026: 8 in Tier 1 at 800 souls, 12 in Tier 2 at 1,600, 13 in Tier 3 at 3,200 and 16 in Tier 4 at 6,400, as the game files list them. Spirit items power a hero's abilities: Spirit Power, cooldown reduction, range, duration and charges, plus active spells such as Knockdown, Cursed Relic, Echo Shard and Refresher. They are the most bought category in the game: Extra Spirit and Improved Spirit appear in about half of all hero-matches. Spending souls on them raises your Spirit investment bonus (see Items and Shop). Deadlock is an invite-only playtest, so every number here is dated.

Most bought Spirit items

Spirit items are the most bought in Deadlock: from Oct 15 to Oct 26, 2026, deadlock-api's measured item stats put Extra Spirit in 52.6% of hero-matches (bought on average at 7.0 minutes), Improved Spirit in 50.7% (13.4 minutes) and Superior Cooldown in 39.7% (24.9 minutes). Then came Mystic Expansion (37.3%), Boundless Spirit (34.9%, at 29.2 minutes), Tankbuster (33.9%), Mystic Burst (33.7%), Extra Charge (33.2%) and Compress Cooldown (32.9%).

Many gun heroes buy Spirit items too, which is part of why these numbers are so high. Mobalytics' Carry Haze build (Oct 22, 2026) opens on Extra Spirit for "magazine and Sleep Dagger damage", and deadlock-api measured Extra Spirit in 72% of Haze games over the same days.

Among commonly bought Tier 4 items, Escalating Exposure and Spirit Burn had the highest measured win rates when bought, 56.6% each, then Boundless Spirit (53.6%) and Transcendent Cooldown (53.3%), by deadlock-api's measurement of Oct 15 to Oct 26, 2026. They are bought around 30 minutes, so the numbers partly reflect teams already ahead. Over Oct 12 to Oct 26, 2026, Scourge reached 58.5% while Disarming Hex (41.5%) and Rusted Barrel (44.7%) were the lowest of items bought over 200,000 times, in the same stats.

Core Spirit items outlets recommend

Spirit builds follow a few chains that guides keep naming. Mobalytics' Deadman Danny build (Oct 21, 2026) takes Extra Spirit, Mystic Burst and Mystic Expansion early, Tankbuster, Superior Cooldown, Greater Expansion and Boundless Spirit in the middle game, and Transcendent Cooldown and Spirit Burn late, the same items that top the buy rates. Its Graves build (Oct 13, 2026) imbues Duration Extender and Compress Cooldown on Borrowed Decree and adds Transcendent Cooldown "after all four actives".

Echo Shard is the item Esports.gg named in July 2026 when it called the meta "Spirit- and Echo Shard-building heroes". Mobalytics' Bomb Bebop build (Oct 13, 2026) rushes it for two Sticky Bombs per hook. Since Jul 28, 2026 its cooldown is 30s plus that of the ability it resets.

Several Spirit actives are counters first: Knockdown for fliers and channeled ultimates, Cursed Relic and Focus Lens to catch one hero, Silence Wave for groups, Decay for anti-heal. Counter Items lists them by threat, and Builds and Itemization covers spirit builds against gun builds.
