Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Bebop

Bebop is Deadlock's scrap robot brawler, built around one combo: hook an enemy with Grapple Arm, stick a bomb on them and uppercut them away or into your team, then sweep fights with his Hyper Beam ultimate. He is one of the original heroes, complexity 2 of 3.

Bebop is a Deadlock brawler built around a hook combo: he pulls an enemy in with Grapple Arm, attaches a Sticky Bomb and launches them with Exploding Uppercut, and his ultimate, Hyper Beam, is an 11-second laser that sweeps a fight. He is one of the 21 original Heroes who were in Valve's invite-only playtest before Deadlock was announced on Aug 23, 2024, and Valve's game files rate him complexity 2 of 3. He is one of the most picked heroes in high-ranked games: deadlock-api measured him in 43.9% of matches averaging Phantom or higher from Oct 15 to 26, 2026.

Exploding Uppercut is a melee uppercut that knocks its target back; when they land they deal 75 spirit damage to enemies within 14 m and cut their fire rate by 14% for 5 seconds, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. It also works on allies, to throw a teammate out of danger. T1 cuts 11s from the cooldown, T2 gives fast spin-up, double weapon range and +30% weapon damage for 9s on a hero hit, and T3 resets Grapple Arm and heals him for 18% of his missing health on a hero hit.

Sticky Bomb attaches a bomb from 6 m that explodes after 3.5 seconds for 85 damage in 8 m; each hero it hits adds 1% to its damage for the rest of the match, and each hero kill 2.5%, halved after 60 hits and 7 kills, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. T1 cuts 8s from the cooldown, T2 adds 85 damage, and T3 gives +5 m/s move speed and +25% debuff resist for 6s on cast, the version Valve's Jun 11, 2026 update introduced.

Grapple Arm is a 30 m mechanical hand that reels in the first character it hits, enemy or ally, on a 23-second cooldown, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026; Valve's patch notes call it Hook. T1 gives +20% weapon damage against the pulled enemy for 6s, T2 doubles the range with +30 m, and T3 cuts 11.5s from the cooldown. Since Valve's Mar 6, 2026 update, the hook can be canceled.

Hyper Beam is Bebop's ultimate: an 11-second channeled beam, 70 m long, dealing 160 spirit damage per second and a 20% slow while his dash distance is cut by 36%, on a 120-second cooldown, per the game files as of Oct 26, 2026. T1 cuts 20s from the cooldown, T2 adds 108 damage per second, and T3 heals him for 65% of the damage he deals to heroes. Valve's Nov 21, 2025 update cut its base damage from 190 to 160 per second and set T2 at +120; the game files now list +108.

How to play

Bebop's game is landing the hook. Mobalytics' Bomb Bebop build by Suzu (updated Oct 13, 2026) "revolves around Bebop's core combo": hook an enemy, attach Sticky Bombs and use Exploding Uppercut to launch them away or into your team.

In lane he is a bully. Mobalytics' Bebop guide calls him oppressive in lane and great at ganking, and the build's motto is "ABB, Always Be Bombing", because every hero hit makes Sticky Bomb permanently stronger. The Laning Guide covers the shared basics.

A missed hook is his biggest risk. The same guide lists it as "very punishing", and adds that he is bad against high-mobility heroes and in open spaces, where enemies can stay out of the hook's 30 m line.

Hyper Beam turns him into a damage dealer for 11 seconds, but he is slow and easy to stun while it runs. PC Gamer recommends using Unstoppable before a channeled ultimate such as Hyper Beam so stuns cannot interrupt it.

Builds

Bebop builds mostly Spirit Items to power his bombs and beam, with movement Vitality Items; Items and Shop covers the shop. In deadlock-api's measurement of his games from Oct 15 to 26, 2026, Mystic Burst was bought in 77%, Spirit Strike in 72%, Sprint Boots in 66%, Improved Spirit and Spirit Snatch in 62%, Tankbuster and Trophy Collector in 56%, Boundless Spirit in 48% and Echo Shard in 27%.

Phase Items (Mobalytics' Suzu build, Oct 13, 2026)
Early Echo Shard rush, Trophy Collector
Mid Mystic Reverb, Mystic Expansion and Compress Cooldown on Sticky Bomb; Spirit Snatch
Late Greater Expansion, Transcendent Cooldown, then Indomitable, Dispel Magic, Stamina Mastery or Unstoppable
Situational Slowing Hex, Knockdown, Spirit Resilience, Cursed Relic

Echo Shard comes first in that build because it lets him throw two Sticky Bombs per hook: Hook, Exploding Uppercut, Sticky Bomb, Echo Shard, Sticky Bomb. Spirit Snatch applies on Grapple Arm, the build notes. Builds and Itemization explains how to load a build by its ID.

Counters and matchups

Bebop is countered by staying out of hook range and by spell blocks. Mobalytics' Bebop guide advises tracking him on the map and keeping stamina ready when he is missing, denying him Sticky Bomb stacks in lane so he cannot scale, and using cover against his long ultimate.

Counterspell is the counter item most named against him: the guide says it can "shut down most of Bebop's kit", and Mobalytics' Street Brawl guide (Aug 27, 2026) lists it against him. Dispel Magic removes a Sticky Bomb before it explodes.

The measured matchups from deadlock-api's hero-versus-hero data, Oct 15 to 26, 2026, show Bebop's lowest win rates against Graves (42.1%), Rat King (42.2%), Paige (42.2%), Victor (43.8%) and Baba (44.2%), and his highest against Mirage (54.3%), Pocket (53.5%), Mina (53.4%), The Doorman (53.4%) and Sinclair (52.9%). These are raw rates: Graves and Rat King win most of their games against everyone.
