Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Celeste

Celeste is a Deadlock spirit hero, a Coney Island performer who blasts enemies with Light Eater, shields with Dazzling Trick, drops Radiant Daggers and ends fights with the bouncing Shining Wonder. Valve added her on Feb 9, 2026 in the Old Gods, New Blood update.

Celeste is a Deadlock spirit hero who flies in, burns enemies with Light Eater, silences anyone who breaks her Dazzling Trick barrier and finishes fights with Shining Wonder, an orb that bounces between enemy heroes. Valve calls her "Coney Island's biggest star" in its Feb 9, 2026 reveal, the fifth of the six heroes of the Old Gods, New Blood update. She is one of 44 Heroes on Oct 26, 2026; Dot Esports (Aug 25, 2026) lists her among the hardest to learn.

Source: the game files on deadlock-api, Oct 26, 2026, which match Valve's Sep 16, 2026 update.

Light Eater is Celeste's opener and her sustain. The flare marks enemies for 8 seconds, and every shot or ability she lands on them adds bonus spirit damage while the 18% spirit lifesteal heals her, a figure Valve's Sep 16, 2026 update cut from 20%. Its upgrades in the game files are T1 +15% spirit lifesteal, T2 -10s cooldown and +3 m range, and T3 +22 damage and +0.2 spirit scaling.

Dazzling Trick is a shield that punishes whoever breaks it. When enemies shoot the 100-point barrier down, it explodes for half its value and silences them for 1.75 seconds within 14 m. The game files list T1 +3.5 m/s move speed, T2 +70 barrier, and T3 +1.25s silence, -20s cooldown and a surface Shining Wonder can bounce off.

Radiant Daggers is her poke and her damage ramp. The beam lands 30 m away after 1.4 seconds, and each enemy hero it hits stacks +7% spirit damage on her for 30 seconds. Its T1 adds a second charge, T2 +70 damage and -22s cooldown, and T3 +4% spirit damage and +9% fire rate per stack, per the game files.

Shining Wonder is her team fight ultimate. The orb hits, slows by 32% and shortens dashes by 22%, then lingers 3.25 seconds to find the next target. Valve's Aug 22, 2026 update cut its damage from 165 to 140 and its spirit scaling from 0.9 to 0.6. Upgrades: T1 +16% slow, T2 +90 damage and +0.45 scaling, T3 +6 bounces and -30s cooldown (game files).

How to play

Celeste plays as a mobile spirit carry who wins by staying alive. Mobalytics' Celeste guide lists her strengths as high mobility, fast dashes and four stamina, high spirit damage and a strong team fight ultimate, and her weaknesses as low health ("a high-risk, high-reward pick") and a reliance on landing abilities. She floats more than other heroes: Valve's Mar 10, 2026 patch set her reduced gravity to 25% and her air control to 44%, the figure still in the game files.

In lane she farms with Light Eater and Radiant Daggers. Mobalytics' build by Hydration buys Mystic Burst and Mystic Expansion early for waves and Extra Regen for sustain (Mobalytics, Oct 13, 2026). Her power spike comes when Torment Pulse and Radiant Daggers stacks let her stand in a fight and drain.

In fights, Dazzling Trick silences only the enemies who break it, and Shining Wonder bounces only between enemies within 15.5 m, so both do most against a grouped team.

Builds

Outlets build Celeste for spirit damage and sustain. Mobalytics' Hydration build (updated Oct 13, 2026) is "centered around dealing heavy spirit damage while also sustaining yourself to become a mobile hyper carry" (Mobalytics):

Phase Items
Early Extra Regen into Healing Booster, High-Velocity Rounds into Opening Rounds, Mystic Burst, Mystic Expansion, Mystic Regeneration into Radiant Regeneration, Restorative Locket, Healbane
Mid Torment Pulse ("your main source of damage"), Greater Expansion, Tankbuster, Witchmail, Mystic Vulnerability into Escalating Exposure, Scourge or Ethereal Shift
Late Spellslinger, Spiritual Overflow, Refresher, Bullet Resilience, Plated Armor or Spirit Resilience, Superior Cooldown, Healing Tempo
Situational Grit into Reactive Barrier into Indomitable, Counterspell, Dispel Magic, Unstoppable, Stamina Mastery

Source: Mobalytics (Hydration), Oct 13, 2026.

deadlock-api measured High-Velocity Rounds in 85% of Celeste games, Radiant Regeneration in 83%, Extra Regen in 82% and Torment Pulse in 76% (Oct 15 to 26, 2026); Escalating Exposure, bought in 46%, won 53.7% of those games. The items are listed in Spirit Items, Vitality Items and Weapon Items, and how the shop works in Items and Shop.

Counters and matchups

Displacement, slows and burst beat Celeste. Mobalytics' guide names knock-ups and displacement "her biggest weaknesses" and suggests Slowing Hex to make her easy to hit, Dispel Magic to remove Light Eater (a debuff), and Counterspell against Shining Wonder or Dazzling Trick. It names Mina and Pocket for burst, Infernus and Pocket for damage over time, and Bebop's Hook and Dynamo's Kinetic Pulse for displacement. Mobalytics' expert tier list (Oct 22, 2026) calls Plated Armor "the premier defense" against her. More in Counter Items.

Measured matchups put Graves, Paige, Rat King and Victor as her hardest. deadlock-api's matchup measurement (Oct 15 to 26, 2026) has Celeste winning 41.9% against Graves, 42.0% against Paige, 42.4% against Rat King and 42.7% against Victor, and 55.2% against Pocket, 53.6% against Mina and Rem, and 53.5% against Paradox.

Lore

Celeste is a star of Coney Island's side show in the game's occult New York (see Lore and Setting). Valve's reveal gives her line "You are about to see something rare and wonderful!", and the game's own hero text (deadlock-api) says she is a unicorn hiding in plain sight, who steps out to win back a soul a member of her found family sold to cover a gambling debt. Players nearly voted her in earlier: in Valve's Feb 12, 2026 results, Venator beat her by 11%, and one player cast 813 votes, all for Celeste (see Hero Voting).
