Deadlock public release: Dec 2027Not announced: our best guess from Valve's Sep 29, 2026 development note and press estimates.
Best guessValve gives no date: its Steam page says "To be announced" and access is limited to friend invites. Its Sep 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps post lists work still to do before full release (progression, hero and Hideout customization, the Mid-Boss, Guardians and Walkers, hero remodels), its big updates have come about eight months apart, and Beebom's Oct 1, 2026 estimate is "late 2027 or early 2028", so we count to the end of 2027. Seven

Seven is a Deadlock spirit hero who electrocutes groups of enemies with Lightning Ball, Static Charge, Power Surge and his Storm Cloud ultimate. He is one of the original 2024 playtest heroes and the hero most outlets recommend to new players.

Seven is a Deadlock hero who waits at the edge of a fight and then rolls in "like a storm" with chain lightning, a delayed area stun and a huge channeled ultimate, Storm Cloud, as the game's own hero text puts it (game files via deadlock-api, read Oct 26, 2026). He is one of the 21 heroes of the 2024 playtest roster (Esports.gg), so he has been in Deadlock since before Valve opened the game's Steam page on Aug 23, 2024. Every beginner list we checked, from Esports.gg in Sep 2024 to Dot Esports in Aug 2026, names him; see Best Heroes for Beginners and the roster in Heroes.

Abilities

Key Ability What it does Cooldown
1 Lightning Ball A slow ball of lightning that travels up to 5 s, 75 DPS in 4.25 m 26 s
2 Static Charge Charges an enemy hero; after 3.5 s everyone within 5 m is stunned 0.9 s 42 s
3 Power Surge For 10 s each burst shocks the target and jumps up to 4 times 50 s
4 Storm Cloud A 7 s channel: a growing cloud that hits every enemy in line of sight 205 s

Source: the game files as of Oct 26, 2026.

Lightning Ball is Seven's wave-clear and poke. The ball moves in a straight line for up to 5 seconds, dealing 75 DPS (spirit scaling 0.5) in a 4.25 m radius and slowing down as it hits things, so it lingers on a group of troopers or a hero caught in a corridor. Its upgrades, per the game files: T1 adds a second charge (6 s between charges), T2 slows enemies 28% and adds 1 s of lifetime, T3 adds 58.5 DPS and 1.75 m of radius (Valve raised that T3 radius from +1.5 m on Aug 12, 2026).

Static Charge is his crowd control. He tags an enemy hero within 15 m, and 3.5 seconds later everyone within 5 m of that hero is stunned for 0.9 seconds and takes 35 damage (spirit scaling 0.79). T1 cuts the cooldown by 20 s, T2 adds 7 m of radius and 5 m of cast range, and T3 adds 0.9 s of stun and 160 damage. Since the Shop Rework of May 8, 2025 it can no longer be cast on himself.

Power Surge turns his gun into a chain weapon. For 10 seconds every burst shocks the target once for 10 damage (spirit scaling 0.14), and the shock jumps to up to 4 more enemies within 10 m, gaining 10 damage per jump (spirit scaling 0.32), per the game files. T1 takes 18 s off the cooldown, T2 adds 3 m/s of move speed, 8 damage and 0.23 scaling, and T3 adds 10 s of duration and makes targets take 15% more spirit damage (a -15% spirit resist debuff).

Storm Cloud is his ultimate. Seven channels for 7 seconds while a cloud grows from 10 m to 30 m over 3.5 seconds, dealing 95 DPS (spirit scaling 0.6) to every enemy in line of sight beneath it plus lightning strikes of 75 damage in 7 m, and he can drift at 1.5 m/s while channeling (game files, Oct 26, 2026). T1 gives 55% bullet resist while channeling, T2 adds 7 s of channel, 10 m of final radius and 5 m of starting radius, and T3 adds 65 DPS and 4 m/s of flight speed.

How to play

Seven plays as a spirit caster with a fast-firing gun. Mobalytics' Seven guide lists his strengths as high area damage, fast wave and camp clearing and reliable crowd control, and his weaknesses as no mobility, trouble against mobile heroes and vulnerability to crowd control. In lane, Lightning Ball clears troopers and pokes at the same time; the Laning Guide covers the basics of last hits and denies.

Fights are about timing rather than aim. Static Charge goes on the enemy most likely to stand among teammates, Power Surge turns his bursts into chain damage, and Storm Cloud comes out when the enemy team cannot easily reach cover.

Dexerto's Seven build (Mar 3, 2026) puts the first points in Lightning Ball, then Static Charge, then Power Surge, with one point in Storm Cloud as soon as it unlocks; see Ability Points and Leveling.

Builds

Players build Seven mostly from Spirit Items with sustain from Vitality Items. What Seven players actually bought between Oct 15 and Oct 25, 2026, as deadlock-api measured it:

Phase Most bought
Lane Monster Rounds (74%), Extra Spirit (56%), Extra Charge (39%), Extra Regen (37%)
Mid game Mystic Vulnerability (70%), Healbane (51%), Duration Extender (51%), Spirit Lifesteal (47%)
Late game Boundless Spirit (36%), Escalating Exposure (36%), Superior Duration (26%)

Source: deadlock-api, measured item stats for Seven, Oct 15 to Oct 25, 2026.

Dexerto's build (Mar 3, 2026) leans more on his gun: Monster Rounds, Intensifying Magazine, Suppressor, Healbane and Cultist Sacrifice early; Reactive Barrier, Healing Rite, Headshot Booster, Spirit Shielding and Enduring Speed in the middle; Boundless Spirit, Toxic Bullets, Bullet Resilience, Unstoppable and Escalating Exposure late. Item costs and tiers are on Items and Shop and Weapon Items; Builds and Itemization explains how to choose.

Counters and matchups

Seven is countered by anything that stops a channel or ignores his stun. Mobalytics says Static Charge can be stopped by Viscous's The Cube, Ivy's Stone Form and the items Dispel Magic and Counterspell, and advises staying behind cover so Storm Cloud cannot see you. PC Gamer names Knockdown as the answer to his ultimate; see Counter Items.

Measured matchups put him ahead of most of the roster. Between Oct 15 and Oct 25, 2026, deadlock-api measured his lowest win rates against Graves (47.9%), Rat King (48.3%) and Paige (48.5%), and his highest against Rem (60.4%), Pocket (59.9%) and Shiv (59.8%). Graves, Rat King and Paige top nearly every hero's worst list in that window because they win more against everyone.

Lore

Seven is an occultist who was held in Lost Whisper, a prison for the most dangerous occultists, behind wards laid by ritualists of seven nations; what happened on the night of his execution became a legend, according to his biography in the game files. The wider setting is on Lore and Setting.

Frequently asked questions

Is Seven good in Deadlock? In Deadlock, Seven had a 54.30% win rate between Oct 15 and Oct 25, 2026, sixth of 44 heroes in deadlock-api's measurement. Outlets disagree on his tier: Dot Esports put him in S (Aug 25, 2026), Dexerto in B (Oct 9, 2026) and Mobalytics' expert list in C (Oct 22, 2026).

Is Seven good for beginners in Deadlock? Yes, by every outlet we checked: Esports.gg (Sep 26, 2024), TheGamer (Aug 31, 2024) and Dot Esports (Aug 25, 2026) all recommend Deadlock's Seven to new players. Dot Esports called him "the answer for most players".

What is the best Seven build in Deadlock? Deadlock's Seven players most often buy Monster Rounds and Extra Spirit in lane, then Mystic Vulnerability and Healbane, and finish with Boundless Spirit and Escalating Exposure, as deadlock-api measured for Oct 15 to Oct 25, 2026.

How do you counter Seven in Deadlock? Break line of sight during Storm Cloud, and interrupt it with a stun or the Knockdown item, as Mobalytics and PC Gamer advise. Seven has no movement ability in Deadlock, so heroes who can reach him quickly do well against him.

What does Seven's ultimate do in Deadlock? Storm Cloud is a 7-second channel in which a cloud grows from 10 m to 30 m and deals 95 damage per second to every enemy in line of sight, plus lightning strikes; its cooldown is 205 seconds in Deadlock's game files as of Oct 26, 2026.
